Lockdown Evaluation
In this evaluation I shall be
evaluating my “LockDown” assignment. I will discuss the research
process, the pre-production, the production, the post production, and finally
my conclusions. I will examine my strengths and weaknesses, and also areas for
improvement.
At the beginning of the
assignment, I created a survey about how people would understand disability and
wanted to find out more. I found this quite challenging, as it was hard to find
a suitable set of questions, and I found it difficult to come up with the right
questions to ask, but also not too personal, as I was concerned that people
wouldn’t answer.
The research phase was something
that I enjoyed, as I wanted to do it differently from what I had done
previously, which was to create a poll on Instagram for people to respond to. I
also created a short interview with my mum discussing disabilities, which in
turned gave me a couple of ideas for my vlog. I also watched videos about my
hero Rob Parsons who is a drift racer. He came back from a bad accident, which
left him disabled, and overcame his struggles to get back into racing. This man is my hero because I have also
struggled with a disability and nothing can stop me from doing what I want. His
determination has inspired to get in to motorsport racing one day
The preproduction was easy as I
didn’t have to fill all of it out. Also, it made it a lot easier to stay
organised, as I didn’t have to share the preproduction with my team. I only had to do the Location recce, equipment
list, cast list, call list, script and shot list. The most difficult part of this was trying to
think about what to put as I was in our homes and I couldn’t got really in
depth with the preproduction.
When it came to production, I had to use my iPhone XR to record a mid
shot of my face whilst I was talking about myself, and also read from a script
with bullet points, that I made to help me. The hardest part was to think about
what I wanted to say as I kept forgetting my lines which made it very
frustrating for me.
I felt I could of taken more time
on the edit to make it look very professional, however I had to rush it hand it
in as I didn’t have a computer for most of the project and had to rely on my
LSA, Nic, to help me complete work. We called each other every day to complete
work. I found this difficult and frustrating as I wasn’t doing the computer
work, and I was a little worried about whether I would get on to next year if I
hadn’t completed work. Because it was a vlog, there was not too much editing as
a vlog is usually unedited and is staying very effectively short. The software I used was Adobe
Premiere Pro which I have been using for the past couple of years. This is very
useful as I knew where everything is for the small amount of editing that I
needed. I was pleased about this, as I didn’t want to make a heavy edit of my
vlog, as a vlog isn’t edited very much, and I also wanted to keep it original
to me with me stuttering, as that is part of my disability.
The things that went well was the
preproduction as I knew exactly what I wanted to say along with the research I
undertook. The things that didn’t go so well, were that I didn’t have a PC for
the majority of the project, and had to rely on my LSA to help me. I could have
spent more time on the filming aspect of my project as I had to rush it to hand
it in on time. During this project, I have learnt that I can be more
independent with my work taking chances and thinking of new possible ways to
improve my work.
In conclusion, I thought the
project went OK. However, I couldn’t do half of it as I didn’t have a computer
for the majority of the project, which in turn made it harder for me as I had
to rely on my LSA, Nic, to help me until I got my new pc. Without him I didn’t
think I would have passed this project therefore wouldn’t get on to next year. To be honest I was getting sick of Covid-19
now as the 2 meters and social distancing is useless, as when I’m out and about
people still come near other people and this defeats the purpose of social
distancing and spending, which could mean 14 days in quarantine. This had a
tormented effect on my work due to the fact of COVID 19 and me not having a PC
to complete my work. Also not having that much support I found it tricky, as I
had to think even harder than I normally would. Despite this I have become more
independent with my work and can show great knowledge about the topic that I’m talking about. I feel OK about my vlog, but I could
have spent more time filming it, trying out different camera angles, and getting
different perspectives. Also, I feel like I could have spent more time on the
edit to make it look more professional for other people to watch. The reason
why was because I didn’t have a computer to complete my work, and I only got my
PC a couple of days ago, therefore I had to rush to get everything finished and
uploaded. I think people will be inspired and look up to people with disabilities,
as disabled people have enough hard work to get through their days whether that
is a walking or talking disability. Despite all the difficulties I had when
making this project, I have become more responsible with my work, taking
chances and having feed back on my work if anything goes wrong.
