Music Video Evaluation

Evaluation
In this evaluation, I will reflect and analyse my Music Video Project. I will evaluate my performance throughout the project, what I have learnt and, what went well and how I can improve.

At the start of the project, I was partnered with one classmate, who was also a friend of mine. I was very happy with this partnership, as I thought it was a person who I would be able to trust, and it would be enjoyable. I thought this would help to make things go smoothly, because we know what our strengths and weaknesses are from experience of our past projects. For pre-production we discussed a song and an idea, and then we split the tasks equally. I did the risk assessment, the equipment list, location recce and the cast list. I was happy with the pre-production, as it went well and we manged to complete it well before our deadline. At this stage, I was excited and looking forward to filming.

The original idea that myself and my partner has was to film a music video to the song Avicii, without you. The idea was to focus on a couple of friends having a fall out. One of the characters follows the other on a phone app to realise he isn't where it says he is. Character A eventually finds character B and apologises. This was meant to be filmed in a range of different locations such as; Brighton, Reigate and my team mates house.

Unexpectedly, I was told by my partner in the project, that he wanted to work by himself. There was nothing that I could do about this, and this made me very annoyed and worried, as we were close to the filming date. At first I really wanted to do the project on my own with another song, but I did not think that I would have enough time to do the pre-production and organise people to help. So, I was really panicking, and I asked to join another group, as I was excited by their ideas. I felt better, and positive that I eventually a group that I could join.

In the new group, I only managed to do two parts of the pre-production, because it was already done and the group was very organised. For the production, my role was as an actor, because all of the roles had been taken up. This was not the way the I wanted to work, as I want to work hard and have more responsibility, but due to the previous issue, I did not have a choice. Our original filming location was Vauxhall, but I asked for the location to be a little bit closer to where I live as my mum has had a lot on her plate recently, and she was a little worried about my safety due to my disability. Despite this, we overcame this by filming at another group member's grandmother's house. We wherein the ball and banged to film all of the footage in one day. This went without any problems. I thoroughly enjoyed working in the production as we all had fun.

Location recce

The editing went exceptionally well, because I had good footage to work with. I had a little help with my edit from my LSA and teacher, for their opinion of certain aspects of the edit. During my edit I took inspiration from McDonakd's monopoly[ promotion, by having the peel from the left hand side transition. This imitates where the sticker is peeled back on a the Big Mac box to reveal the prize. I used colour grading tips from Sam, who is a tutor, to enhance the colours. This is a new skill that I have been learning over the past few weeks, and I was happy to use this new technique. I also tried to include different transitions and techniques to what I normally use.

Editing timeline

Overall, I think the project went alright despite the issue I had with my first group. This has taught me how to resolve similar issues that may happen in the future. I also learned different transition techniques that I had not used before. One positive with my new group was that I saw how super organised they were and how hard they worked. In the future I think I need to collaborate more with my group members, so that the problem with the first group is less likely to happen again. In conclusion, I enjoyed working in the second group and the whole project has taught me a lot.

I appreciate its been a tricky one for you, re the change of groups etc.
I like you edit and particularly the vignette effect you've added to the video.
You've worked hard to get everything in place, very well done.
