Short Film Analysis
In this audio commentary, I will be analyzing this short film named "Maude". Maude is a comedy about a baby sitter who pretends to be the mother of the baby she is looking after,
Script
In the opening scene, we see a young woman sitting in an untidy car. (0-24)
An establishing shot is used as the woman is approaching the door to the house. (25-31)
A woman opens the door. They talk, and it is clear that they used to know each other. Then we discover that the younger woman is looking for the woman's sister. (35-1.15)
Notice the use of bright lights and sunlight. (1.25-2.11)
In this scene, we see the young woman introduced to the baby, and she looks a little taken aback (2.50- 3.07)
A wide shot is used to show the baby sitter is bored and she doesn't know what do, as the baby is crying (3.18-3.45)
Then she opens the fridge and gets a smoothie, which she spills on her top (3.46-3.55)
We see the baby sitter wearing the athleisure wear that the publicist launched. This shot is a mid-shot of the baby sitter (4.00)
Next, we see her struggling with the pushchair until a jogger helps her. (4.10-4.33)
They talk, and the jogger thinks that the baby sitter is the mother, and she pretends that she is the mother. (4.30-4.55)
She walks, looks at other mums, she starts to act like a proper mum, and she goes to the coffee shop that the publicist suggested (5.15- 6.30)
For the first time, we hear upbeat music, as she walks on the street and tries on clothes. This shows that she is happy being a mum. (6.35- 6.47)
Then she sees a notice for a mother and baby class. The camera is focusing on the poster (7.00)
The music stops, and we see multiple close-ups of children, and the camera focuses briefly on the babysitter (7.00-7.20
The music starts again, and we see a close-up of her looking proud of herself (7.20-7.38)
A car pulls up, and then we see the twist in the story. (7.40)
The final scene is a wide shot of her standing alone in the road. (9.18)
