Promo Deconstruction
Today I will be deconstructing a retro video game store that uses the style of Talking Heads. This is when people are talking over the video and in front of camera. I have decided to deconstruct a game shop promo video as it's our groups first potential idea on a new shop that has recently opened in Sutton. The target audience are teenagers and gamers.
During the promotional video there was upbeat positive music in the background throughout the duration of the video. The volume of the music lowers when somebody's talking, then when they're not the volume raises to its normal level.

This is the opening shot of the promotional video. It displays a logo of the company. By having a logo it makes the viewer aware of the company, and by having it before the video starts the viewer is instantly engaged. 3".
This is the second shot of the promotional video of a mid-shot of a staff assistant talking about what they are selling to their potential customers. The mood of the person talking is happy as he is smiling towards the camera. The background of the shot is relevant to what they are talking about, which makes sense.
This is the third shot of the promotional video of a mid-shot of a customer purchasing an item from the store, with the staff being positively energetic with a costume of a character from a game. This sets the scene.
This is the fourth shot of the promotional video of a wide shot of the store with enthusiastic customers shopping around. This is to entice customers to come to the shop to purchase the goods. The bright lighting has an effect of the mood, as it bright and well lit and therefore giving a happy vibe.
This is the fifth shot of the promotional video of a close up of some retro games from the 90's. This gives a good indication of what types of games the store has and therefore what the video is promoting. Also the use of bright colors symbolizes a positive vibe.
This is the sixth shot of a close up of a game and a gaming system to promote more products, along with treats. The treats are there tempt young kids and adults to come back to their store to buy their products.
The seventh shot is a mid-shot of the same person from the second shot talking again, this time about the company and where they buy their products. The guys tone of voice is positive and again, he is happy which is shown by his facial expressions.
The eighth shot is a close up of gameboys and game cartridges. This gives the viewer a better representation of what they sell and therefore attracting more buyers. The use of different bright colours represent a positive vibe and attracts the viewers attention. There is also taking over this shot
The ninth shot is a mid-shot of two sales assistants serving a customer. Again, the mood of the sales assistants are reflected as positive, with smiles, laughter and open body language.

My conclusion
My conclusion I can make from the 11 shots I have deconstructed is that the atmosphere in my promotional video needs to be positive by showing happy staff, happy customers, bright lights and upbeat music. Also having treats on offer to entice the target audience to come and visit. Additionally, I need to include lots of equipment, games and snacks the shop has to offer. 










A good deconstruction evidenced, you have attempted to analyse technical aspects in camera angles and movements and indications into how long each shot is used for. With more information regarding how a consumer would react to the different shots used, a good effort and nice to see an introduction and conclusion to your work, well done.
