Film Studies- Short Film

Short Film from a Genre and Auteur Perspective For the short film that I have produced for the past month, it is the genre of "Horror". Two of the codes and conventions of my horror are the use of a dark colour palette throughout the film and low key lighting, I also used extreme close-ups as can be seen in the phone box shots as the main character is talking about his plan, and of the mobile phone on the floor. The reason why I used a close-up on the phone because I want the audience to focus on the phone as it creates suspense. I used zombies because the living dead is a recognised theme in the horror genre. I used slow editing to build up the suspense for the audience. I didn't use flashbacks because I didn't feel that the film was long enough. Other conventions that I did not use were quick flashing shots or jump scares. My film did not add anything new to the genre, as most of the ideas have already been taken and I am only studying at college My usual ...

Evaluation For Short Film

Evaluation In this essay, I will be evaluating my “Short Film “assignment. I will discuss the research process, the pre-production, the production, the post-production, and finally my conclusion. I will examine the strengths and weaknesses within the group including myself, as well as the areas of improvement throughout this unit. Firstly, I am going to discuss the process of pre-production and start on the planning stage then continue all the stages of our short film into paragraphs so I can assess and evaluate how well we did in our short film.  In the first stages of the short film, our tutors gave us the task to create a short film using a script that was already written. The script we chose was, "Dead Connection", which is roughly 2 - 4 minutes long about a guy that is stuck in a phone box and surrounded by zombies trying to kill him. Also, the tutors put us in groups, and I was a little apprehensive about this, as normally we choose them. However, I got put in ...

Rationale

Ben Smith Level 3 Year 1 Rationale In September 2018 I joined creative media level 2 at Nescot, having been at the college 2 years prior. I'd been studying IT level 1 for a year and I began to get really bored of it. I was really interested in the technical side, however I felt like my creativity was really lacking. I had a huge desire to learn how to film and edit, and decided it was time for a change. Having started level 2 in September I began finding and exploring the possibilities of where my career would lie after this course. We were taught a range of different camera and editing techniques, such as basic camera and editing set up, and an intro to visual effects. All these were very valuable for later with completing our modules such as: music video, podcast, short film and final major project, which I was extremely proud of. The whole year went fast, I made friends for life and learnt techniques I never would have dreamed of. My confidence overall has improved ...
